The Island of FireLanzarote’s 300 volcanoes are extinct but you can see their presence
everywhere: mountains, craters, lava flows – the landscapes of Lanzarote
are dramatic and fascinating. From the nature viewpoint
of Montaña Rajada you can admire a vast sea of lava that reaches the
coastline. Since then its inhabitants have learned to live alongside this
unique landscape, and have even dry farmed melons, onions, tomatoes and
also vines in La Geria.
More... 2million litres of wine per year are produced by
the vines which grow in black volcanic picon, protected by low stone
semi-circular zocos.
More... What remains is a circular cavity through which light pours in. Two of these cavities and the underground channel (created by lava) between them, were the basis for the construction of Jameos del Agua. This was the first
tourist centre created by Cesar Manrique in the landscape of Lanzarote.
The building of this centre commenced in 1966 and ended in 1976 with the
completion of the Auditorium..
