The Jameos del Agua - extraordinary  restaurant / nightclub in two underground caves linked by a natural underground lake formed by molten lava.

The Jameos del Agua - extraordinary  restaurant / nightclub in two underground cavesThe word "Jameo" refers to that part of a volcanic underground tube in which the ceiling has fallen in because of weight or gas accumulation.

What remains is a circular cavity through which light pours in. Two of these cavities and the underground channel (created by lava) between them, were the basis for the construction of Jameos del Agua.

This was the first tourist centre created by Cesar Manrique in the landscape of Lanzarote. The building of this centre commenced in 1966 and ended in 1976 with the completion of the Auditorium.. More...
